Kapiti’s mayor K Gurunathan, launched the website for the inaugural Kapiti Summer School on Saturday 1 September at Whitireia Campus on Kapiti Road. Addressing an audience of founders, tutors and sponsors, the mayor noted “It’s a mark of your creative approach that you launched your website on an auspicious date of new beginnings; the first day of Spring.”
The brainchild of two Kapiti residents, Lynette Ellison and Sue Harris, Kapiti Summer School offers adults nearly 70 courses on a wide range of topics under headings such as Artistic Tasters, Lifestyle, Develop Professionalism, Outdoors, For Foodies and Evening Entertainment. Taking place from 12-20th January 2019, most of the courses will be held at Whitireia Campus while others will take place at locations around the Kapiti area.
The mayor continued “Let a thousand flowers bloom and oh what a variety of blooms! I particularly like the one that challenges you to come taste the whisky. How about bee keeping, quilting or Indian cooking and the art of cheese making? Each hub of creative knowledge is a building block where people, while upskilling, interact and make new friends. Kapiti Summer School is contributing to our collective shaping of our communities. I congratulate the organisers, sponsors and tutors and urge those reading this to sign up for your own journey.”
Kapiti Summer School is delighted to have attracted around 35 local high calibre tutors with an in-depth knowledge of their subjects and an enthusiasm to impart this knowledge to others. The details of each course can be perused on the website: www.kapitisummerschool.co.nz with “early bird” prices as an encouragement to book the pathway to acquire new skills or enhance interests.
