Joy de Geus
Born in Ashburton, NZ, of Dutch father and NZ mother. I started my career as a Graphic Designer in Christchurch. After 3 years of working as a commercial artist, I shifted to the Chatham Islands, and made a name there as a landscape and portrait artist. After living truly 'Back to Nature' for 5 years, I travelled over to Europe, spending 6 months in America and Canada.
In Europe I was accepted into Fine Arts in Angers, France. I completed a Post-Graduate Degree in Art in Amsterdam with a Tertiary Teaching diploma, then went on to do additional studies at the University of Bologna.
Returning to Holland I finished a bachelor of English with further Art studies and worked for Greenpeace for a year and a half.
After 15 years in Europe my New Zealand roots pulled me back to my homeland and I moved back with my young family. Since then I have worked as a Part-time Art teacher and participated and organized Art Expositions in the Wellington area.
I specialize in watercolour, acrylic, and mix figures with landscape, to embody existing mythological stories and my own stories. Water is definitely a theme and I eternally try to capture its transparency and spiritual quality.
